What people ask the house

Which Painted studio paints my subject?

Pick by subject: cats go to Painted Whiskers, dogs to Painted Pup or Royal Hound, horses to Painted Mares, Mane or Stallion, homes to Painted Threshold, couples to Stately Vows, and the night sky of a date to Painted Heavens. Twenty studios were open when we last checked, on 23 September 2026, and every one is linked at the foot of this page.

Why does Painted run many studios instead of one site?

Because a style library is chosen for its subject: the styles that flatter a whale are not the ones that flatter a bride. One engine paints for every studio, and each studio carries only the styles built for what it paints.

Which photograph should I send for a painted portrait?

Send the one where the eyes are sharp, the light comes from a window, and the head fills a good part of the frame. Megapixels matter less than those three, and no studio can paint detail a photo never caught.

How do I commission a memorial portrait of someone who has died?

Choose the photograph that looks like them, not the best-composed one, and order it from Painted Eternal, the studio made for that commission. Send more than one photo if you are unsure; you do not have to decide alone.

How do I photograph an old or damaged print so it can be repainted?

Lay it flat by a window out of direct sun, turn off every lamp, and shoot straight down with the phone parallel to the print. A print stuck to its glass stays in the frame; that one is a job for a conservator.

What does Painted Heavens make from a date and a place instead of a photo?

It computes the real sky over that place at that moment and paints it as a plate. It takes a date, a time and a place, and no photograph at all.

Where should a portrait hang?

With its centre at about eye level, 145 to 150 cm from the floor, on a wall that never gets direct sun. Sunlight fades pigment, and it does it slowly enough that nobody notices until the picture moves.

What does signing in to Painted Family store, and how do I delete it?

Your email address, and the name and picture Google or Apple hand over if you use them; nothing else is kept on this site. Write to support@painted.app and the account is deleted within 30 days.

For the record

What is Painted Family?

Painted Family is the index of the Painted studios: each one paints one kind of subject from a photograph, and this site links to every one that is open. It is operated by PaintedApp, LLC.

What does it sell?

Nothing itself. Every portrait, print and file is ordered on the studio’s own site, at the price that studio shows before you pay.

How do I reach a person?

Write to support@painted.app. By post: PaintedApp, LLC, 1327 SE Tacoma St #394, Portland, OR 97202.
