The terms, in plain words

Painted Family is the front door to a family of studios, run by PaintedApp, LLC. It shows you which studio paints which subject, and it gives you one sign-in that works at every house. That is all it does, and these terms are short because of it.

Nothing is sold here

Every commission is placed with a studio, on that studio’s own site, under that studio’s own terms, which you see before you pay. Prices, print sizes, delivery times, revisions and refunds all live there. If something goes wrong with an order, the studio you ordered from is the one that puts it right, and its terms say how.

Your account

One email address, one sign-in, every studio. The sign-in link we send is the key: whoever holds it is you, as far as the door knows, so keep it to yourself. You can close the account whenever you like by writing to us, and the privacy page says what happens to what we hold when you do. We can close an account that is used to abuse a studio or the people who run one.

The studios we link

We link only studios we run ourselves and have checked are open. A link is not a promise about what a studio has in stock, what it charges, or when it ships: those change, and the studio’s own page is always the current word.

The paintings and the words

Every painting on this site was made by artificial intelligence, in our own engine, except where a plate is named as a historical engraving or a computed star chart. They are interpretations, not photographs. The photographs beside them are the same example pairs the studios show on their own sites. The Journal is written by Painted. The site, its plates and its words belong to PaintedApp, LLC; please ask before you reuse any of it.

Using the account

Do not use the sign-in to reach someone else’s orders, to test or overload the service, or to pass yourself off as someone else. What you may upload and who owns the finished portrait are set by the terms of the studio that paints it. Under all of them sits one floor, set here for the whole family: send only photographs you have the right to use, no child without a parent or guardian’s consent, no celebrity or public figure, and no one else’s trademark.

What we don’t promise

We keep this site up and we keep it honest, but it is offered as it is. We don’t promise it is never down or never out of date, and we are not liable for a loss that comes from relying on the index instead of the studio itself. Where the law gives you a right we cannot limit, the law wins.

To the extent the law allows, PaintedApp, LLC is not liable for indirect or consequential loss from using this site, and because nothing is sold here, our total liability for the site itself is limited to one hundred US dollars.

Changes
